Vocoder

The Vocoder listens to your voice (or any input) through up to 64 frequency bands and re-speaks it through a second sound - the carrier - and that carrier section is a real little synth: saw, pulse, triangle and noise oscillators with pulse width, detune, up to 7-voice unison, drive and a resonant tone filter. Automatic consonant handling keeps speech intelligible; formant shift bends the vocal character bigger or smaller.

The carrier source is the superpower: Internal uses the module's own synth or the input itself; Sidechain vocodes this track through whatever you feed the plugin's sidechain input; MIDI lets you play the carrier pitch live from a keyboard. Classic robot voices, talking synths and rhythmic textures - all one module.

Why it hits different

The GhostWare take.

  • A genuine multi-oscillator carrier synth with unison, inside the vocoder.
  • Carrier from sidechain or live MIDI - play your voice as chords.
  • Automatic consonant handling keeps every word legible.

Control Showcase

Every control, explained.

24 controls, named exactly as they appear in the plugin.

Bands 8 to 64 (default 24)

How many frequency bands the vocoder listens and rebuilds through - fewer is robotic, more is intelligible.

Low 40 to 500 Hz (default 80 Hz)

Bottom of the vocoder's frequency range.

High 2000 to 16000 Hz (default 12000 Hz)

Top of the vocoder's frequency range.

Attack 0.5 to 100 ms (default 8 ms)

How fast each band's envelope opens.

Release 5 to 500 ms (default 60 ms)

How fast each band's envelope closes.

Carrier

The sound your voice is re-spoken through (the carrier): the Input itself, Saw, Pulse or Noise.

InputSawPulseNoise
Tune 40 to 880 Hz (default 110 Hz)

Pitch of the internal oscillator carrier.

Unvoiced 0 to 100 % (default 20 %)

Injects a touch of noise on consonant sounds (s, t, k) so speech stays intelligible.

Hold 0 to 100 ms (default 0 ms)

Holds band envelopes briefly for a smoother, sustained response.

Formant -12 to 12 st (default 0 st)

Shifts the vocal character bigger or smaller without changing the pitch.

Consonant 0 to 100 % (default 0 %)

Boosts detected consonants for crisper articulation.

Air 0 to 100 % (default 0 %)

Passes some high-frequency signal straight through for air and clarity.

Saw 0 to 100 % (default 0 %)

Saw wave level in the oscillator carrier mix.

Pulse 0 to 100 % (default 0 %)

Pulse wave level in the carrier mix.

Triangle 0 to 100 % (default 0 %)

Triangle wave level in the carrier mix.

Air Noise 0 to 100 % (default 0 %)

Noise level in the carrier mix.

Pulse Width 10 to 90 % (default 50 %)

Pulse width of the pulse oscillator.

Detune 0 to 50 cent (default 0 cent)

Detunes the carrier oscillators for thickness.

Unison 1 to 7 (default 1)

Stacks up to 7 unison carrier voices.

Car Drive 0 to 24 dB (default 0 dB)

Drives the carrier into saturation before vocoding.

Car Tone 500 to 20000 Hz (default 20000 Hz)

Low-pass tone control on the carrier.

Car Res 0 to 1 (default 0)

Resonance of the carrier filter.

Spread 0 to 100 % (default 0 %)

Stereo spread of the vocoded bands.
